Supporting Social-Emotional Development in Early Childhood
Training description
This training is exclusively for Healthy Families Massachusetts staff.
Strong social-emotional foundations are essential for healthy development in young children. This training supports home visiting staff in understanding how infants, toddlers, and preschoolers build relationships, develop a sense of self, and learn to recognize and manage their emotions. Learners explore how early interactions with trusted adults lay the groundwork for secure attachment, communication, confidence, and emotional regulation.
Through discussion and guided reflection, participants consider how children express affection, take initiative in social settings, and show pride in their accomplishments. The training also explores the importance of temperament and how to partner with families in understanding and adapting to individual differences. Special attention is given to cultural perspectives on socialization—comparing independence and interdependence philosophies—and how these beliefs shape parenting practices and developmental goals. Please discuss this opportunity with your supervisor before registering.
This training is limited to Healthy Families Massachusetts staff. Registration by non-HFM staff is not permitted.
