Family Support Friday Session 1

This Family Support Friday session explores the critical role of family support and engagement in improving maternal and postpartum health outcomes. Participants will examine how partners, extended family members, and support networks influence maternal well-being, mental health, and continuity of care. The session will highlight culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to engaging families, particularly within Black and underserved communities.

Attendees will gain practical strategies for fostering effective communication, supporting shared decision-making, and strengthening family-centered care practices that promote healthier pregnancies, safer postpartum transitions, and long-term maternal and infant health.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify at least three ways family support systems influence maternal and postpartum health outcomes, particularly within Black and underserved communities.
  2. Apply culturally responsive and trauma-informed strategies to engage families in maternal and postpartum care planning and decision-making.
  3. Develop at least one actionable approach to strengthen family-centered support that promotes maternal mental health, safety, and continuity of care.
