Please join the Boston Fathers & Family Network for a collaborative discussion with local Boston area agencies about their work supporting fathers and their plans for the spring. We will discuss some of the past year's challenges, and successes, how the pandemic impacts your work with fathers, and what future father engagement work looks like moving forward. Dion Chavis has successfully delivered over 500 fatherhood and family engagement workshops in 12 different states during his career.  Since May 1, 2020, Mr. Chavis has completed 5 virtual workshops and webinars through organization The Glad Dad, LLC.  A community leader who has worked tirelessly to close the achievement gap and increase awareness about the importance of responsible fatherhood, Mr. Chavis has made it his life's mission to spark change and equip fathers with the necessary tools to build lasting connections with their children.

Join us as we learn about best practices for fatherhood engagement, retention, and understanding the importance of empathy when working with fathers. Through the lens of Dion's own experiences as a parent, helpful insights and challenges of fatherhood will be shared and discussed. Registration required here.

Fathers, Racial Equity, and Intergenerational Healing

Speaker: Haji Shearer, LSW

Haji Shearer, LSW, has led programs for fathers since 1999. He is author of “Facilitating Fathers’ Groups: 22 Keys to Group Mastery” and is working on a novel about healing intergenerational trauma rooted in the U.S. slave experience. Haji is Program Director of The Basics, a non-profit devoted to minimizing societal inequities by ensuring all parents have knowledge of practices that promote early childhood brain development.

Join us as we learn about historical trauma, racial inequity, and adverse childhood experiences may impact a father's parenting practices, cultural implications of why people respond to events differently, and identify practices that help settle a father's body and mind to make family relationships more fulfilling. Registration required here.
