Prevention in Action, A Month of Impact

Each April, Child Abuse Prevention Month serves as a powerful reminder: when families have the support they need, prevention is possible.

At the Children’s Trust, we know prevention doesn’t happen by chance. It happens through action. It requires intentional investment in families, strong community partnerships, and a dedicated network of support, likes staff, organizations, and communities committed to meeting families where they are.

Here’s a look at how we showed up this April and how that commitment continues every day.

This year, we recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month with two Step Up for Kids events, bringing together partners, community members and policymakers in both Boston and Berkshire County.

From the State House to the Berkshires, one message rang clear: prevention is possible when families have access to timely, coordinated support.

Festive graphic for National Home Visiting Week shows 24,474 home visits and 2,345 families supported across Massachusetts, celebrating the impact of family support and dedicated Home Visitors. Data is from 2024-2025.

During National Home Visiting Week (April 20-24), we turned our focus to the dedicated professionals who make prevention possible every day: home visitors.

Home visitors build trusted, consistent relationships with families and as one home visitor shared:

“I believe the work home visitors do helps participants be more open to advocate for themselves once we’re no longer with them.”

This year, we were proud to highlight five exceptional home visitors whose work embodies compassion, consistency, and impact. Their stories remind us that prevention happens in everyday moments:

These voices represent a workforce that is essential to prevention: one that deserves continued recognition, investment, and support.

Throughout the year, the Children’s Trust offers free training opportunities that strengthen skills, build connections, and promote best practices across the field. From our annual A View from All Sides , to monthly trainings, these efforts help ensure that providers are equipped to meet the evolving needs of families.
