BOSTON (November 14, 2015) – The Children’s Trust, Massachusetts’ leading family support organization, this evening honored Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh at their “Evening of Promise” gala held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
The Children’s Trust selected Mayor Walsh for his dedication to supporting families and children across Massachusetts. As an accomplished leader, he is ardent in his commitment to community and dedicated to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential.
“Mayor Walsh understands that an investment in family support programs, like those supported and provided by the Children’s Trust, leads to the long-term well-being of children, including improvements in health, education, and social outcomes that benefit us all,” said Suzin Bartley, Executive Director of the Children’s Trust.
“We want to thank the Mayor for his long-time support of our work and his commitment to the children and families of Boston and Massachusetts,” said James E. Rooney, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce CEO and Chair of the Children’s Trust Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to be honoring the Mayor.”
"I am honored by this recognition from the Children's Trust," said Mayor Walsh. "For years, this organization has put the welfare of our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents first, and I thank them for the work that they do."
Mayor Walsh served 16 years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives where he established himself as a leader on education, economic, and civil rights issues related to creating a Commonwealth where residents thrive. He has developed a strong record of supporting working people and families, communities of color, immigrants, and all the people of our state.
Approximately 500 guests attended the “Evening of Promise” gala. The elegant and fun evening featured silent and live auctions and dining. Past honorees have included Senator William “Mo” Cowan; Governor Baker; the late Governor Paul Cellucci; Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce CEO James E. Rooney, who currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors at the Children’s Trust, and former State Senate Presidents Therese Murray and Robert E. Travaglini.
