Family Support Friday Session 8

What does it actually feel like to grow up as a neurodivergent child? In this reflective, story-driven session, Krystina draws on her experience as a late-diagnosed adult to offer something research alone can’t: an inside view of what makes or breaks the adult-child relationship when a child’s brain works differently. Through that lens, Krystina explores what neurodivergent children are quietly carrying, what they desperately need from the adults around them, and what she wishes someone had told her parents when she was young. This session is for caregivers navigating the daily complexity of raising a neurodivergent child, and for the practitioners and support staff who walk alongside them.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the lived emotional experience of a neurodivergent child, including the hidden impact of feeling seen — or unseen — by a parent or caregiver.
  2. Distinguish between support approaches that communicate acceptance versus approaches that unintentionally communicate that the child needs to be changed or corrected.
  3. Identify at least one concrete shift in language, expectation, or perspective they can bring to their own parenting or family support practice.
