Last week, the Children’s Trust hosted an important conversation at the Massachusetts State House about the impact and future of home visiting programs in the Commonwealth. The briefing underscored the proven benefits of home visiting programs in preventing child abuse and neglect while strengthening family well-being.

Soon after Rosibel Marcano gave birth to triplets at the age of 20, she lost her mother — her major support during the early stages of parenthood. Marcano on Tuesday pointed to a home visitor program as pivotal in helping her and her husband navigate parenting, through her grief.

We recently sat down with Children’s Trust Board Chair, Kate Haranis, to learn more about her journey with Children’s Trust, the opportunities ahead and how the community can help advance this critical work.

Healthy Families Massachusetts (HFM) is a shining example of how investing in early support for families not only prevents child abuse and neglect but also contributes to better health outcomes, reduces poverty, and increases housing stability—benefits that ripple through generations.

One man aspired to be a father who listens when listening is needed. Another rattled off the many traits that he wants to be as a father, ending with, “Most importantly, I will love her.” These were just a few of the things the 2024 graduates of the Nurturing Fathers program aspire to be as fathers.

Over 800 individuals joined us in person or online, experiencing two days filled with engaging and thought-provoking presentations, meaningful connections, and a renewed energy that will power our work forward.

Healthy Families of Berkshire County was presented the Public Relations Award by the Children’s Trust at its annual Celebration Day in Boston. This award is given annually to a program that assists the Children’s Trust in getting the message of family support out to the public and demonstrates creativity, collaboration and relationship-building.

The Children’s Trust recently partnered with Pondville Correctional Center in Norfolk to offer the 13-week Nurturing Fathers Program. Nine fathers have successfully completed the program’s first cohort, helping them build new parenting skills and strengthen bonds with their children.

Last fall, the Children’s Trust and the MA Department of Mental Health joined forces to launch an impactful training initiative to enhance the capacity of infant and early childhood providers to support families across Massachusetts.
