Boston Bruins' David Backes and New Balance Donate 2,000 Pairs of Shoes to the Children’s Trust

June 27th, 2018 – Seven Massachusetts Family Centers benefit from the generosity of Boston Bruins player David Backes, his wife Kelly Backes and New Balance Athletics, Inc. The donation of 2,000 pairs of children’s shoes will support Children’s Trust’s movement to stop child abuse in Massachusetts.

Back in April, Kelly Backes volunteered at the Children’s Trust Step Up for Kids event to recognize child abuse prevention month. The event displayed a staggering 688 children’s shoes on the Grand Staircase of the State House to represent the average number of children with confirmed cases of abuse or neglect each week in Massachusetts. After the event, Kelly, her husband David and the team at New Balance, realized that they could help these kids in need by donating and distributing brand new shoes to the Family Centers.

Talking about the Children’s Trust Kelly shares:

“After first volunteering with The Children’s Trust this spring, I knew I wanted to get further involved. During a busy hockey season, I am often parenting alone which can be demanding at times.  The resources and community outlets that The Children’s Trust provides gives parents and families an abundance of resources to help raise healthy, happy children.”

Additionally, David is very pleased to be able to impact children in such a positive and tangible way:

“With my partnership with Warrior/New Balance, I am happy to give back to the community and further help families who may need a little extra assistance.”
