Training description

The positive impacts of father involvement on child wellbeing are well documented, yet family support services are often centered on mothers and children. This workshop explores barriers to father engagement and elevates the practices, attitudes, and behaviors that support best practices with fathers. Participants will learn concrete strategies for making their organizations inclusive of fathers, discuss the benefits of engaging fathers, and learn strategies to connect men with their families.

Learning Objectives

  1. Increase awareness of the positive impacts of father involvement on nearly every measure of child wellbeing.
  2. Understand the benefits of engaging fathers and why it is a critical component of comprehensive family support.
  3. Understand the barriers to engaging fathers and strategies for overcoming those barriers.
  4. Identify concrete ways to make your organization more inclusive of fathers.
  5. Recognize the role of race and other cultural considerations in programs’ work with fathers.

    Fatherhood Initiative Coordinator at the Children’s Trust

    Chris White

    Chris White is the Fatherhood Initiative Coordinator at the Children’s Trust, where he provides technical assistance, support, training, and management oversight of the Children’s Trust fatherhood programs across the state. He is dedicated to supporting families and the programs and professionals that work with fathers and families. In his previous roles as a Head Start preschool teacher and a Healthy Families Massachusetts Program Specialist, Chris has been able to continue his work with families and their shared mission to support healthy and happy early childhood development. Chris is also the proud father of two boys, ages 3 years and 18 months.
