Prevention without Barriers

Training description

Child sexual abuse prevention cannot be effective if access to education, support, and reporting pathways is not equitable. This training explores how culture, language, disability, identity, systemic barriers, and community experiences shape the way children and families understand safety, seek help, and access support. Participants will examine how traditional prevention approaches can unintentionally exclude or overlook vulnerable populations and learn strategies for creating more inclusive, culturally responsive prevention efforts. Grounded in real-world school- and community-based implementation through Turn the Talk, this session highlights how prevention can be embedded in existing systems in ways that increase trust, strengthen accessibility, and improve early intervention for children and adolescents.

Participants will explore barriers to disclosure, reporting, and engagement, and identify practical approaches to help students and families feel seen, respected, and supported. Through interactive discussions, case examples, and reflective activities, attendees will leave with actionable strategies to center equity in child safety work while building prevention environments that are responsive, trauma-sensitive, and sustainable across diverse communities.

Cost: Free for non-CEU attendees, $20 for CEU attendees.

For training participants licensed in Maryland, this activity is approved for 2.0 continuing education hours for licensed Maryland Social Workers, Professional Counselors and Psychologists.

For training participants licensed as a social worker outside of Maryland, Harford Counseling, LLC (Provider number: 2705), is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: (1/15/26- 1/15/27). Social workers participating in this training will receive up to 2.0 credits of Category 1 Continuing Education Credits.
