The Marketing Communications Team at the Children’s Trust seeks a motivated, tech-savvy communications intern who is creative, able to learn fast, take direction, and pay attention to detail.

The intern will be an integral member of the Marketing Communications Team. He or she will work closely with other team members, attend team meetings, assist in planning team operations, and receive assignments as part of team projects. The intern will meet with a supervisor to review status of projects and discuss job performance.

This individual will gain skills in developing and executing marketing plans, managing website content, handling social media communications, planning and staffing public awareness events, conducting public education campaigns, assisting in public policy advocacy, and other nonprofit marketing communications functions.

Hours:                                    25 to 35 hours per week

Pay rate:                                $13 - $15 per hour

Location:                               Government Center, Boston

Additional information:      Short-term, contract position. No benefits.

Writing support – in addition to the online writing projects below, the Children’s Trust is looking for writing support on the following projects:

  • Development communications, including fundraising appeals

The Children’s Trust recently launched a redesigned version of this award-winning, parenting website. The intern will assist by:

  • Writing, editing, and uploading content
  • Working on “back-end” of website functionality

The Children’s Trust’s main website provides information about the organization’s mission, programs, news, and other updates. The intern will assist by:

  • Working closely with website manager
  • Writing, editing, and uploading content
  • Helping to keep the website up-to-date

social media

The Children’s Trust has a robust presence on social media, including profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and other platforms. The intern will assist by:

  • Working closely with e-communications coordinator
  • Drafting and posting content
  • Assisting e-communications coordinator with social media campaigns aimed at target audiences including our annual “Not Even for a Minute” campaign educating the public on the dangers of leaving children in cars

public awareness event support

The Children’s Trust will hold events to educate specific audiences, such as donors, about its work. The intern will assist by:

  • Supporting development of materials for events
  • Assisting in preparation and logistics of events
  • Staffing at events

public education campaign support

The Children’s Trust conducts several awareness campaigns to educate the public about creating environments in which children grow up safely and healthy. This includes distribution of brochures, posters, and other collateral. The intern will assist by:

  • Keeping track of inventory of all printed material
  • Tracking and fulfilling orders for material

required qualifications

Successful candidate must be able to take direction and criticism, work independently, and have excellent attention to detail. Excellent writing and communication skills are required. Experience working with brand guidelines is helpful.

Software skills should include basic knowledge of social media platforms and Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of website content management systems and Adobe Creative Suite is helpful, but not required. Graphic design knowledge or experience is helpful, but not required.
