the children’s trust honors senator william 'mo' cowan

BOSTON (October 25, 2014) – The Children’s Trust, Massachusetts’ leading family support organization, this evening honored Senator William “Mo” Cowan, of ML Strategies and Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., at “An Evening of Promise,” a gala to benefit families, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Senator Cowan was recognized for his work in the public and private sectors on several causes that benefit children and families. These include his service in the Administration of Governor Deval L. Patrick, his interim service in the United States Senate, and his service on numerous non-profit boards focused on community and family, including the Greater Boston YMCA, the Discovering Justice Foundation, Project STEP, and The Roxbury Preparatory Charter School.

“Senator Cowan has shown a commitment to improving the lives of families by working to improve educational opportunities for children that allow them to grow to be successful. His work as a community leader and public servant helps build stronger families now and for the future,” said James E. Rooney, Chair of the Board of Directors at the Children’s Trust, and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

Senator Cowan is Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ML Strategies, a government relations and business advisory group with offices in Boston and Washington, D.C., and Of Counsel to its law firm affiliate, Mintz Levin.Governor Over 500 guests attended the Children’s Trust’s largest annual fundraiser. Among guests were Governor Deval Patrick, Congressman Joseph Kennedy, Speaker Robert DeLeo, Dr. Debbie and Dr. Sunil Eappen, and Will Packer of Will Packer Productions. Mr. Packard has produced notable movies such as “Think Like a Man,” “Ride Along,” and “About Last Night.” 

Senator Cowan represented the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as interim United States Senator in 2013, filling the vacancy created when Senator John F. Kerry was appointed United States Secretary of State. Prior to his Senate service, Cowan served as Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick‘s Chief Legal Counsel and, later, Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor.  Additionally, Cowan served as a Fellow at the Harvard University Institute of Politics.
