the children’s trust installs new leadership, presents awards at annual meeting

BOSTON  (Dec. 4, 2013) – The Children‘s Trust, the leading family support organization in Massachusetts, today installed new officers of its Board of Directors and honored individuals and supporters during its annual meeting.

The event recognized the 25th anniversary of the organization, which has helped over 350,000 Massachusetts families create safe, stable and loving homes for children.

The Children’s Trust’s Board of Directors elected James Rooney as its new Chair. Mr. Rooney, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, previously served as Vice Chair. He replaces Roger Donoghue of the Boston law firm Donoghue Barrett & Singal, who will continue his long tenure as a board member.

Ryan Hutchins, Senior Vice President at Gilbane Co., was named as the new Vice Chair.

Three individuals received The Steve Cahn Award in recognition of their excellence and leadership in supporting families. The award is named for the late Stephen Cahn who served on the Children’s Trust Board of Directors and was a tireless advocate for children through the Worcester Juvenile Court.

Mr. Cahn’s widow, Dr. Marjorie Cahn, and Board Member Moe Boisvert presented the awards to these individuals who oversee programs funded by the Children’s Trust:

Roy Belson, Superintendent of Medford Public Schools, which operates The Medford Family Center,
Michelle Godfrey, Director of the Center for Families in Cambridge, and
Cindy Horgan, Executive Director of Cape Cod Children’s Place in Eastham.

Dave Mancuso of Mancuso Communications Strategies received the Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of his assistance in developing new messaging as part of the Children’s Trust rebranding that occurred this year. Board Secretary Anne Bailey Berman, President of Chadwick Martin Bailey, Inc., presented the award.

Donna Cupelo, Regional President, New  England, for Verizon Communications Inc. accept the Corporate Partner of the Year Award in recognition of Verizon’s long-time support of the Children’s Trust, including its parenting resource OneToughJob.org. Board Member Paul Doherty, Vice President Hospitality, Shawmut Design and Construction, presented the award.

Carolyn Brunis, Director of Stewardship and Special Events, receive the Children’s Trust Staff Award. Board Member Betsy Busch, M.D., presented the award. Co-workers of Ms. Brunis nominated her for the honor.
